The death of a young New York couple was actually an accident — rather than a murder-suicide as suggested in earlier reports, police have concluded. Jonathan Fava, 26, and Kelly Lynn Bray, 25, were killed on the night of March 4; while early reports speculated that murder and suicide were the causes of death for the young pair, the Southampton Town Police said last week that the shootings deaths were, in fact, a tragic accident, The Southampton Press reported.

The deaths of a husband and wife found in their Kewaunee County appear to be the result of a murder-suicide, sheriff’s officials said.

The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department says 71-year-old Dennis McMillan shot his 56-year-old wife, Laura McMillan, multiple times Friday night before turning the gun on himself.

Officer Valerie Cincinelli, 34, was taken into custody by the FBI on Friday and charged in U.S. District Court in New York with conspiracy to commit murder. In the federal criminal complaint filed against Cincinelli, prosecutors allege that the 12-year New York Police Department veteran had been discussing a murder-for-hire plot with an unnamed man since February. A person with knowledge of the case told Reuters under condition of anonymity that the man, referred to in the seven-page complaint only as a “confidential source,” was Cincinelli’s boyfriend.
