Despite charges that the officer hired a man to kidnap and kill two people, a judge freed him Wednesday. Audrey Faye Moorehead reasoned that prosecutors had no probable cause to support the charges against Bryan Riser. The 36-year-old was arrested last month on suspicion of murder for the 2017 deaths of Albert Douglas, 61, and Lisa Saenz, 31.
Cooper, the white woman who falsely called the police on a Black man in Central Park, completed five courses in a “restorative justice resolution.” As an alternative to jail time, she was required to complete racial equity education classes. She reportedly learned to appreciate different racial identities. According to CNN, the DA dropped her charge Tuesday.
California officials released a man after he spent two years in prison for murder charges.
Officials charged David Andre Buchanan, 41, with murder after the death of Gustavo Fuentes in May 2019. However, new evidence presented in the case showed that he killed in self-defense. Instead, the court sentenced Buchanan to two years for a separate drug-related offense. He left Monday morning a free man.
According to The Mercury News, Buchanan shot Fuentes in self-defense. Fuentes robbed him at gunpoint, and Buchanan shot him around 3 a.m. May 15, 2019 near an elementary school. According to video surveillance, Fuentes stopped Buchanan in his van where the altercation took place. After being shot, Fuentes ran from the van, but ultimately collapsed from the fatal wound.
