A mother confessed to killing her two children who were found dead Tuesday afternoon inside an apartment in southwest Baltimore, police said.
Baltimore Police say Jameria Hall, 28, has been charged with two counts each of first-degree murder, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Police received a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday reporting a foul odor at an apartment in the 500 block of Coventry Road. Police said officers found the children’s decomposing bodies in a front room and a back room of an apartment.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison on Wednesday identified the children as Da’Neria Thomas, 6, and Davin Thomas, 8. Harrison said both children had visible trauma to their bodies.
Neighbors on Coventry Road are heartbroken, telling 11 News they remember seeing the two children playing in the yard and riding bikes. But they said that all stopped about a week ago.
“The police came to my apartment and pretty much told me two children were found unresponsive in the building next door,” neighbor Toni Hyman said. “I literally just saw them. They just asked about my daughter and when she was coming back, and they seemed fine.”
Harrison said Wednesday afternoon that Hall confessed to killing her children. Police said Wednesday afternoon that detectives were still interviewing Hall, and she had not yet been formally charged.
Police did not disclose a motive nor the causes of death. An autopsy is expected to shed light on how long the children had been there and how they died.
