On March 30, 2019 Superior Court Judge Daniel Ray Green sexually assaulted a 14 year-old boy at the Asheville Motel. The teenager was able to leave the for a short while, during which he texted his best friend and mother who called the police.
Green has pleaded guilty to many different counts of sexual assault among them are indecent liberties with a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, providing alcohol to person under 21, and disseminating obscene material to a minor.
He has been sentenced to a 2 year sentence, three years of supervised probation, and a $3,715 restitution fee. Green is also required to register as a sex offender, undergo sex offender treatment, and respect a no contact order with the victim. Green was also disbarred after he pleaded guilty.
This is the first of many cases of justice that are required to show offenders that power and position will not prevent them from facing justice. Every person, despite the amount of money or connections they have, should be held accountable for actions.
