A suspect has been taken into custody after a beheaded woman was found dead on a Shakopee, Minnesota sidewalk, Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Shakopee Police Department, the incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. between Fourth Avenue and Spencer Street. Once they arrived they found 55-year-old America Mafalda Thayer on the sidewalk near the intersection, pronounced dead on the scene.
A search warrant application obtained by Fox9 disclosed that when police arrived, they discovered the victim’s decapitated head next to her body. Officers also recovered a large knife in an alley nearby.
Police quickly apprehended 42-year-old Alexis Saborit for suspected second-degree murder. He is being held in Scott County Jail on pending charges.
In court records viewed by People, the suspect and victim were in a long-term relationship where domestic violence occurred. They also reveal that Saborit has been convicted of multiple misdemeanor charges, including a 2017 conviction for domestic assault.
Thayer’s friends remember her as the hardworking Cuban immigrant who was kind and warm, according to SW News Media.
“She was soft spoken, so funny and always had amazing stories. She always went out of her way to say hi to me when she saw me,” Kendrick said.
Meanwhile, My Pillow co-worker and friend, Jamie Worley tells SW about the emotional vigil held by coworkers, Walker Martinez and Tori Finney.
“I went there today and went to the store and got her a rose and a teddy bear to put on her desk. When I got there I didn’t even look at any other of my co-workers. I just stood at her desk with my head down. ” Worley reportedly said.
The investigation is ongoing.
