A Rochester, NY woman was charged with murder on Wednesday, June 16, following the death of her 3-month-old daughter.
Investigators said Mabel Enid Rosado-Delgado, 38, brought her daughter Karen Victoria Castro-Rosado to Rochester General Hospital in the morning on June 13, according to Rochester First News. The baby, who police say “suffered from severe trauma and appeared to be deceased,” was pronounced dead 30 minutes later.
On Monday, June 14, the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office announced that the 3-month-old infant died due to blunt force trauma. Her death was then ruled a homicide.
Rochester Police released a statement on Wednesday saying that they have conducted an intensive investigation surrounding the events leading up to the death of Karen, according to Rochester First News.
Mabel Enid Rosado-Delgado has been charged with second-degree murder following the investigation.
According to the Democrat & Chronicle, court documents allege that Rosado-Delgado physically abused her daughter and, through blunt force trauma, caused her baby to suffer a skull fracture and bruising that went untreated by medical professionals.
Officers reported that the abuse occurred at the apartment of Rosado-Delgado on Eastman Avenue in Rochester.
“I didn’t do it,” Rosado-Delgado said through a Spanish-speaking interpreter in court on Thursday, June 17, after she pleaded not guilty. She appeared virtually from Monroe County Jail, where she is being held without bail, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.
Rosado-Delgado is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on June 22 at 10:30 a.m.
