A body believed to be that of missing 6-year-old Samuel Olson, was found Tuesday night in a motel room in Jasper, Texas. Samuel was reported missing last Thursday night, but authorities in Houston now acknowledge that he may have been missing since April 30.
Police announced on Wednesday that they arrested the girlfriend of Samuel’s father, 29-year-old Theresa Balboa. She is being charged with tampering evidence after finding her in the same hotel room with the boy’s body inside a tote bag.
In a news conference held by Larry Satterwhite- executive assistant chief of the Houston police-, an anonymous tip was received around 6 p.m. on Thursday that the child was inside a Best Western Hotel.
Authorities say that Samuel’s father, Dalton Olson, is not a person of interest at the time. However, he is still being questioned by police after finding inconsistencies in his and Balboa’s statements from when they first reported the child missing.
Balboa told police last Thursday that she handed over Samuel to his biological mother, Sarah Olson, and a police officer that morning. She further claimed that the officer told her she would go to jail if she refused to hand him over. She complied with their request and then tells Olson that Sarah and the officer left in separate cars. After hearing this story, Dalton calls Samuel’s mother and is told that Samuel is not with her. Investigators confirmed that Sarah was at her house the entire day.
While Sarah has primary custody of the 6-year-old, her attorney Marco Gonzalez stated that she has not seen Samuel since January 2020 and has been denied access to see him since Dalton last took him. According to Gonzalez, Sarah has been in a long custody battle with Dalton and is now broken with grief.
