Kingman police received a call May 12 from Debra Lynn Childers’ son. He told police he hadn’t had contact with his mother, 64, for several months.
While investigating Childers disappearance, police discovered a man named Brett Daniel Puett had been driving her car and withdrawing money from her bank account.
Friday, May 28, police searched two storage units belonging to 35-year-old Puett. They found the body of Childers in a duffle bag. While her identity has yet to be confirmed, police strongly believe the body is that of Childers.
Kingman police arrested Puett the same day, booking him at Mohave County Adult Detention Facility.
According to an article from People, Puett is facing charges of “second-degree murder, abandonment and concealment of a dead body and fraudulent schemes and artifices” in the shooting death of Childers.
It’s thought that Puett and Childers met last summer while living out of their vehicles. Apparently, Childers and Puett were sharing a motel room at the time of her death.
Puett shot Childers sometime in November of last year.
Since his arrest, Puett has admitted involvement in Childers death and the concealment of her body.
