Two men have been charged with murdering Brooke Buchler nine months after her body was found at an abandoned Navy base.
Buchler, 25, was a waitress in Slidell, Louisiana at the time of her death. According to recently filed court records, Buchler had reported to several people that she had been raped by a man in Slidell shortly before she disappeared on August 22.
Investigators stated that two men, Dylan Craddock and Cody Matthews, severely beat the man that Buchler was accusing and dumped him in St. Tammany Parish on August 20. The man managed to survive the attack and was rushed to the hospital to be treated for stab wounds.
Craddock and Matthews were arrested in St. Tammany Parish and charged on September 3 for the kidnapping and attempted murder of the man. Then, while on a jailhouse phone call, Matthews allegedly revealed that he “was present when Craddock killed Buchler.”
New Orleans police suspect that Craddock and Matthews killed Buchler as a means of silencing her for knowing about the beating and the two men have now been charged with second-degree murder.
Matthews is being held in St. Tammany Parish jail without bond and Craddock is in custody in Orleans Justice Center on a $1,000,000 bond. Buchler’s murderers have both pled not guilty to the initial charges of attempted murder and kidnapping from September and are currently awaiting separate trials for those charges.
