St. Charles County, MO — Donna Scuderi was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder of her 39-year-old daughter, Laura Scuderi.
Police were called on Friday night to Scuderi’s St. Peters home after her husband discovered his daughter in an upstairs bedroom with plastic bag wrapped around her head. Investigators found several prescription bottles in the bedroom along with a black cord around Laura’s neck. Scuderi was also found lying unconscious in the nearby bathroom with a severe cut to her neck.
After two days in the hospital, Scuderi woke up and was able to speak to medical staff. When the detectives arrived, she told them that she and her daughter had planned to take their own lives. Laura was suffering from depression and wanted to die, so her mother fed her prescription pills before putting a bag over her head and strangling her with the black cord. Scuderi then went downstairs to cut herself on the throat and passed out on the floor.
In a statement from St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar, “The evidence is very clear that the victim was alive but unconscious before the ligature was applied, so she was suffocated while alive, therefore she couldn’t consciously consent to something.”
Donna Scuderi is currently being held on a $200,000 bond.
