Tina Strader, 46, a longtime employee and supervisor at the Rodeway Inn in Venice, Florida, was killed on Tuesday while cleaning her first room of the day.
Strader was found badly beaten and stuffed in the closet of a motel room by her husband, Gerald Strader. Gerald is also an employee at the Inn, where he and Strader live. He grew concerned when Strader didn’t answer her text messages and went looking for her, which is when he found her and called 911.
Strader was rushed to hospital where she died hours later.
The man staying in the hotel room where Strader was found, Stephen Havrilka, 30, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Security footage shows Havrilka entering the room at 8:50 a.m., just one minute after Strader did.
According to Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman, Havrilka “did not know the victim but perhaps spent days observing her.”
Havrilka is being held in the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Gerald Strader.
“I am disabled, in a wheelchair, with limited use of either hand. We have no money to cover the funeral expenses or my living expenses.” Reads the GoFundMe description, written by Gerald.
Strader is being remembered as a loving mother of four and grandmother of two.
