An Ohio man has been sentenced to 30 years to life for intentionally driving a pickup truck through the doors of Diley Ridge Medical Center’s emergency lobby in September of 2019.
The perpetrator, Raymond Leiendecker, now 46, of Baltimore, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder last month. Now, Fairfield County Common Pleas Judge David Trimmer has sentenced Leiendecker to 15 years to life on each count in the deaths of patient Cindy Fritz and longtime hospital worker Scott Davis. He ordered the two sentences to run consecutively.
“While there was only one act of driving the truck into the building, there were still two people killed as a result of the action. No single term reflects the seriousness of that action,” Trimmer said, the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette reported.
According to authorities, Leiendecker had been upset about a psychological evaluation that he had undergone at the medical centre. They also said there was no indication that Leiendecker had tried to apply the brakes before crashing into the hospital.
