Travis Rudolph, a former NFL player for Florida State, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in a double shooting in Palm Beach County on Wednesday.
The double shooting occurred early Wednesday morning in Lake Park, Florida and resulted in the serious injury of a man that was transported from the scene to a local hospital, and the death of another man who was found “a short distance away” in the city of West Palm Beach.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office stated that the double shooting stemmed from an altercation between several people, including the former NFL player. The sheriff’s office reported that Rudolph allegedly shot at four people and that two people remained uninjured in the incident.
Rudolph, 25, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and first-degree murder and is currently being held without bond. The former NFL player gained national attention in 2016 after he befriended an autistic student and ate lunch with him during a team visit to Montford Middle School in Tallahassee, Florida.
Then, in 2017, Rudolph’s father was killed by an accidental gun discharge in a Florida nightclub. The bullet went through a wall and struck Daryl Rudolph in the back while he was working on repairs in another room.
The former NFL player is due to make his first court appearance on Thursday.
