Four people are dead, and another is in critical condition after a gunman opened fire in an office building. The attack took place around 5:30 in Orange County, California off of 2202 W. Lincoln Avenue.
Officers arrived on the scene while the shooting was still underway. One officer even attempted to target the gunman to try and halt his attack.
Eventually, the gunman sustained injuries too severe for his assault to continue. Though it is not currently known if the injuries he attained were from officer fire, or if they were self-inflicted.
A woman who survived the attack was rushed directly to the hospital and is in critical condition. The shooter was also taken to a hospital and, like his victim, remains in critical condition.
This attack is the worst mass shooting in the city’s history since December 1997, when an ex-Caltrans worker began firing shots on the property of the California Department of Transportation and killed four people.
So far, multiple victims have been confirmed. But any identifying information regarding these casualties has yet to be released to the public. The cause of the shooting is presently unknown, but with the gunman in custody, it is hopeful that further lucidity on the topic will become apparent as the investigation continues.
