Hours after attending his sister’s funeral March 26, 2021, a 54-year-old father-of-five was killed trying to break up a fight in Columbus. It was also his birthday.
Earl Simmons attempted to intervene in a physical fight where several weapons were fired. One of the bullets struck Simmons.
Columbus Police responded to calls about the shooting and found Simmons suffering from a gunshot wound. Simmons was shot at 8:24 and rushed to the hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m.
No one has been detained and charged in connection with the crime. Ted Crome, Simmon’s cousin, states that the family is hoping an arrest is made soon. Crome also states how Simmons was “one of the best people you want to meet” and that he was a peaceful, fun-loving person.
