Jessica Dimalanta was heading home in the early morning hours of this past Saturday. Around 3 am, a blue Nissan sedan with no license plate pulled up next to her. Four men exited the vehicle and began shooting at her. One bullet hit Dimalanta directly in the face, passing through her right eye.
Doctors were able to remove the shell of the bullet, but fragments of it are still embedded in the victim’s face. This has unfortunately rendered Dimalanta incapable of speaking or eating without extreme pain and discomfort. However, she is being well-cared for and is reported to be on her way to recovery.
While the motive for the deed is still under investigation, Dimalanta’s family is adamant that the event that transpired was a racially motivated hate crime.
To cover the physical and emotional damages of the experience, Dimalanta’s family has organized a GoFundMe to welcome public support at this time.
