Justin Herron, a lineman for the New England Patriots, rescued a 71-year-old woman from becoming the victim of an attempted sexual assault.
The incident occurred at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, Arizona. The attacker, now identified as 30-year-old Kevin Caballero, physically forced the older woman to the ground. He was in the process of removing her pants when he was interrupted by Herron.
Herron, who was alerted by the sounds of screaming, rushed over to the scene and was stunned by what he discovered. “It was 11 a.m., middle of the day, in a very open field and the fact that it happened there at that time was just very shocking. I wish I could tell you what I was thinking, but I could just tell someone needed help. All I could do was rush myself over there to make sure I could help the victim and I could comfort her and be the best person I can be.”
After apprehending the attacker, Rogers and the fellow rescuer both worked to keep the suspect in custody. Thanks to their efforts, the suspect was caught and will face the fullest extent of the law.
Herron and his co-rescuer were presented with Outstanding Service Awards for their bravery and heroism. Detective Natalie Barela of Tempe Police declared that “If not for the swift actions of Mr. Justin Herron and Mr. Murry Rogers, this vicious attack could’ve been much worse”.
The Patriots player shared that “I don’t want this to happen again, I don’t want to have to save someone else’s life again, but I’m glad I was able to save someone’s life on Saturday”.
