HB1 and its senate counterpart SB10 intend to prohibit transgender children from receiving care that affirms their gender. Representative Allen and Senator Schelnutt proposed the bills that will attack doctors, nurses, therapists, and even the child’s own family members if they choose to assist the child in obtaining gender affirmation. The bills will force individuals to decide between their personal well-being and the wellbeing of the children involved.
On February 24, HB1 made it through the House committee with a single amendment. Then, on March 2, SB10 passed through the Senate (23-4) without any amendments.
With these bills, transgender youth will no longer be able to legally receive hormones or puberty blockers. In addition, they will be unable to receive hormone therapy or any form of gender-affirming surgery.
