Thomas Elmore Jr. was found guilty in court on a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Tamara Naish.

In September of 2016, Elmore Jr., 48, claimed that he found Naish, also 48, dead of suicide at their Riverview, Florida home.

It didn’t take long for authorities to notice discrepancies in Elmore Jr.’s story. Naish’s body had been moved and she had been shot in the hand which was likely a defensive wound. The gun was also found in Naish’s left hand even though she was right-handed. Elmore Jr. waited at least 36-hours to call for help because he was “distraught.”

Elmore Jr. is awaiting sentencing.

“This delivers justice for Tamara Naish and her family,” Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren said in a statement. “As a nurse, she dedicated her career to helping others. Her life was taken so heartlessly, and now the man who did it — and lied about it — will pay for it.”
