The remains of Alexis Murphy, who disappeared in 2013, have been recovered.
Murphy set off from her Virginia home in her dad’s Nissan for a back-to-school shopping trip on August 3, 2013. She was never seen again.
In 2014, despite her still being missing, Randy Allen Taylor was tried and convicted of her murder. This conviction was based on surveillance video which showed him holding the door open for Murphy at a gas station and DNA found on a bloody shirt and a fingernail which linked her to him.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office says that her remains were found on December 3. They were located on private property not far from the gas station where Taylor was seen on surveillance with Murphy.
“With careful consideration for Alexis’ family being paramount, notification to the community was delayed to allow them time to grieve and make proper arrangements,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Randy Taylor remains in prison on two life terms.
