The son of a couple recently found dead is facing multiple charges, including two counts of open murder.
Nicholas Alexander Johnson, 27, is accused of killing his parents, Gary Johnson, 65, and Laura Johnson, 64.
The two were reported missing on February 9 after Gary failed to show up to work for over a week. When police checked their Portage, Michigan home, they found “signs of violence” which prompted an immediate search of the area.
Three days later, Gary and Laura’s remains were found buried in a nearby forest.
Police arrested Johnson just hours after his parents were reported missing after they found him hiding in a storage container.
He faced two outstanding bench warrants, one of which was for a felony home invasion-third degree charge, which stemmed from a 2019 incident in which Johnson was said to have broken into the home of his parents, with whom he had a no-contact order.
“From the first time I heard they were missing — which was on Wednesday the 10th early in the morning — as much as I wanted to believe otherwise, the rational part of me understood it was pretty much leading to something like this,” Gary Johnson’s older brother, David Johnson, told MLive.
“None of it was unexpected — unwanted, but not unexpected,” he said.
