A 20-year-old ex-boyfriend of Danielle Hopton, 18, of Fort Collins, and another man have been arrested and charged in connection with her beating death.
Stephen McNeil, Hopton’s ex-boyfriend, is being held for investigation of 1st Degree Murder, Domestic Violence, Violation of a Protection Order, and Violation of Bail Bond Conditions. Ian Rayas, 20, of Timnath has also been arrested.
Fort Collins, Colorado police received a 911 call about an unconscious and injured woman in a parking lot. Upon their arrival, officers found Hopton “with life-threatening injuries consistent with an assault.” She died in hospital later that day.
“This heinous act of violence took a woman’s life and forever changed the lives of her loved ones,” stated Investigations Lieutenant Jeremy Yonce in a press release.
Hopton was known as an animal-lover, who spent her free time working at a local animal shelter and helping her dad raise guide dog puppies for the blind.
Described as “a gorgeous, loving, kind and caring young woman,” Hopton “was always smiling and laughing, she was always asking how you are doing and just genuinely cared about others,” Bo Street wrote on a GoFundMepage set up for her family.
