Police in Scottsboro, Alabama, received a call Wednesday morning at around 6:15 a.m. about a suspicious vehicle stopped in a local roadway. 8-months pregnant Amber Michelle Coffman, 35, and Owen Deangelo Williamson, 33 appeared to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Both were dead on-site.
Investigators allege Williamson fatally shot Coffman before turning the gun on himself. However, nearby police where both Coffman and Williamson had lived had no reports of domestic violence pertaining to the pair. A motive for the violence is not known at this time.
Miraculously, and thanks to the first responders and medical professionals on-site, the baby was able to be transported to the nearest hospital and saved.
“They made the immediate call to begin measures to maintain blood flow and oxygen,” Scottboro Fire Chief Gene Necklaus said of first responders. “Basically a CPR situation.”
The baby is undergoing further treatment and remains listed in critical condition, but hopes are high as professionals continue to save the baby’s life.
