On January 30th, at about 12:30 p.m., Shadina Smith was groped by a man after leaving her New York City apartment. The 29-year-old mother of a 1-and-a-half-year-old boy told her fiancé, 26, what had happened, and the two went to confront the man.
Reportedly, the man retaliated and shot Smith and her fiancé multiple times in the first-floor hallway of their building. Police were contacted about two people who were shot and rushed to the scene where they found Smith unconscious and unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and her fiancé conscious and alert after being shot in the torso and left arm.
Both were rushed to the hospital, where Smith was pronounced dead. The fiancé was in stable condition and was released from the hospital.
Smith’s Aunt had this to say:
“It’s been a horrific nightmare situation. She was very invested in her son and his future. I hate that he won’t be able to know how wonderful and how resilient she was. We just want to make sure to give him all that love.”
