On May 24th 2019, Jennifer Dulos of Connecticut, disappeared during a custody dispute with her husband, Fotis Dulos. In January 2020, police charged Dulos with the murder of his wife. A few weeks later, on January 30th he died of apparent suicide.
According to ABC news, Jennifer Dulos alleged in 2017 that her husband had begun exhibiting “irrational, unsafe, bullying, threatening and controlling behavior” during the couple’s custody dispute. In response to this claim, Fotis Dulos stated that he had never “physically threatened, stalked or assaulted” his wife.
In May 2019, Jennifer Dulos dropped her children off at school and disappeared. After finding blood stains in the victim’s garage, police stated they believe she suffered a serious physical assault. Police charged Fotis Dulos and his girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, with tampering with physical evidence in May 2019. Video footage depicted Dulos dumping his wife’s bloody clothes in trash cans.
Fotis Dulos later released a statement to the public where he recognised “the public’s perception of [him] as a monster”. Then on January 7th 2020, police released a statement charging Dulos with capital murder, murder, and kidnapping. Dulos pleaded not guilty.
On January 28th, emergency services rushed Dulos to hospital in a dire condition after a suicide attempt at his home in Farmington. He never regained consciousness and died on January 30th from carbon monoxide poisoning. According to ABC news, Dulos left behind a note stating, “I refuse to spend even an hour more in jail for something I had NOTHING to do with.”
A request by prosecutors closed the case against Fotis Dulos in March 2020. Fotis Dulos’ defendant continued to claim that his client was framed. A year since the death of Fotis Dulos, the body of his wife, Jennifer Dulos, has still not been found.
