On January 10th, 2021, Patric Ferguson, an officer, reportedly kidnapped and murdered a man while on duty. It was during a Tennessee night when the crime was committed using Ferguson’s squad car. He had an accomplice, Joshua Rogers, who reportedly helped move the victim’s body. Ferguson tried to cover up the crime scene but was caught when authorities found Ferguson’s phone showing internet searches for cleaning up crime scenes and destroying DNA evidence.
It was indicated that all three men knew of each other prior to the crime.
Ferguson was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated kidnapping, especially aggravated kidnapping, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with or fabricating evidence, as well as being relieved from duty. Joshua Rogers was charged with accessory after the fact, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with or fabricating evidence.
The Director of the Memphis Police Department, Michael Rallings, stated, “No one is above the law… His actions were not that of a law enforcement officer and should not reflect on fellow officers.”
