After a 15-year-old Ohio runaway was found dead in Nevada last week, authorities have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the teen’s disappearance and subsequent demise.
On December 8, a 15-year-old girl was taken to Dignity Health Saint Rose Hospital in Henderson, Nevada and pronounced dead soon after her arrival. On Saturday, police confirmed that the body belonged to Kathryn McGuire of Painesville, Ohio, who had allegedly run away on Thanksgiving with her friend, Haylie Vance.
Police found Vance, alive and well, in Long Beach, California on December 4. According to Haylie, she and McGuire had voluntarily left Ohio with a 19-year-old man named Aaron Larkin. Although Vance and Larkin were reported missing on November 27, the police began their search for McGuire on November 26 (Thanksgiving).
Vance told police that she, McGuire, and Larkin stayed in California for at least six days before they split up. While Vance remained alone in California, Larkin and McGuire traveled to Nevada together. After McGuire was pronounced dead, Larkin was taken into police custody in Nevada. He is currently being detained by the Henderson Police Department as part of an investigation into his runaway plans with the 15-year-olds as well as McGuire’s death.
As of Monday, the Clark County Coroner’s Office had not yet released the cause of McGuire’s death. This investigation is currently ongoing and anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to call the Painesville Police Department at (444) 392-5840.
