Alexis Sharkey, a 26-year-old Instagram influencer, was found dead on a Houston roadside on Sunday morning after she had vanished Friday evening.

Alexis was last seen on Thanksgiving at her friend’s house. Her friend, Tanya Ricardo, said that she last spoke to the influencer around 6 p.m. on Friday before Alexis went radio silent. Ricardo stated that it was highly unusual for the social media maven to not respond to messages, noting that “she is attached to her phone. She is a social media queen. She is an influencer. She works from her phone.”

When Alexis was still unresponsive on Saturday, her friends and family all began to worry. Her husband, Tom Sharkey, alerted Alexis’ mother that her daughter had been missing for 24 hours. In response, Stacey Clark Robinault frantically posted on Facebook that her daughter was missing and that she needed help and support to spread the word.

Houston police stated that Alexis’ naked body was found around 8:30 a.m. by a city worker off 1-10 near North Eldridge Parkway in West Houston — three miles from her apartment. Ricardo lamented that the perpetrator, “just threw her on the side of the road, naked, like garbage.” There were no signs of external injuries and police are currently awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Alexis and Tom had moved to Houston in January. Although they were only married for about a year, Ricardo said that the couple had been having issues in their relationship. “Recently, she opened up to us about it and divorce was being filed,” Ricardo revealed. “She is a very private person. She didn’t share a lot about what was going on at home.”

Tom, 49, has shared several posts on Facebook in honor of his wife. In one post, Tom wrote, “My world! My everything! I’m so lost right now! My one and only!” Meanwhile, Alexis’ mother suspects that her daughter was murdered. “From what I’ve been able to gather as well as a mother’s gut. I learned very young as a mom to trust my gut. It’s not let me down.”

Houston’s Buffalo Bayou Park will host a vigil for Alexis on December 3. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign was set up in order to raise money for travel and funeral expenses for Alexis’ family, who is based in Pennsylvania.
