Chris Watts has allegedly contracted Coronavirus whilst behind bars at Dodge Correctional Institute in Waupun, Wisconsin.
Watts is currently serving five life sentences for murdering his pregnant wife, Shanann, and their two children Bella and Celeste. In a phone call to a friend outside of the maximum-security prison, one inmate stated that most of the prison, including all the people in Watts’ unit, has been infected with Covid-19.
Rather than explicitly providing his name, the inmate mentioned the prisoner’s nickname of “the meat man” during the phone call. The nickname was given to Watts because he works as a butcher for the institution and has nothing to do with what he did to his family.
According to the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Corrections, Dodge Correctional Institution has the highest number of confirmed Covid-19 cases amongst their staff than any of the other facilities in the state. In regards to those in their care, Dodge has reported 516 positive Covid-19 tests amongst the inmates as of November 17.
The prison is doing its best to provide its staff and inmates with the tools they need to stay safe, and little is known about Watts’ current health status.
