New Jersey Deacon arrested for possessing child pornography

A New Jersey Deacon is arrested and charged with possessing child pornography on Thursday. Anthony Laterza, 70, had served as deacon of St. John’s in November and December of 2019 before he was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of child pornography.

Investigators were able to identify Laterza as the prime suspect after The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted that a Berkeley Township resident was downloading child pornography images.

According to The Daily Voice, detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, U.S. Homeland Security, and the Berkeley Township Police Department were able to acquire a search warrant in order to enter Laterza’s residence.

He is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail, awaiting his pending detention hearing.
