In 1975, Douglas Bennett was convicted for the violent rape and robbery of a woman in her home and a car on Valentine’s day. Bennett was to serve 18 years for his multiple felonies including rape, kidnapping, sexual contact, robbery, and deviate sexual intercourse. After Bennett lost his appeal he never showed up to serve his sentence.
40 years later on Wednesday Bennett was finally captured after he attempted to acquire a passport using the identity of a 5-year-old child who passed away in 1945. It is not yet confirmed how Bennett is connected with the child, but supposedly his work as a drama teacher at Mount Holyoke College is close to where the child passed.
Bennett is now detained in Florida and charged additionally with passport fraud and aggravated identity theft.
