Takahiro Shiraishi known as ‘twitter killer’ has pleaded guilty to murder in court Wednesday. Shiraishi, 29, was arrested in 2017 when police found body parts in his apartment. The serial murderer targeted women contemplating suicide on Twitter claiming he could help them die or commit suicide with them.
Shiraishi murdered a total of eight women, including a 15-year-old girl. The one male victim, 20, was killed after approaching Shiraishi about his girlfriend’s disappearance.
Shiraishi’s lawyers argue that the victims consented to be killed due to the nature of their meeting with Shiraishi. However, Shiraishi denies this and said his victims resisted death and the bruises on their bodies are proof.
If Shiraishi is convicted he will face the death penalty which is done by hanging in Japan. Shiraishi’s lawyers are trying to reduce the sentencing to murder with consent which would lower the prison time to a maximum of 7 years.
