Babylon Berlin (TV Series 2017– ) - IMDb

Babylon Berlin

Babylon Berlin is a German neo-noir television series based on the German books by Volker Kutscher. This mystery/crime show  set during the 1920’s in Berlin during an unstable period that would eventually lead to the rise of Nazism. Secret groups, a Russian heiress, mobsters, social unrest, corruption, and the rise of Fascists.  All in a day’s work for Detective Gereon Rath, a dogged and relentless police inspector trying to uncover the truth. Along with the help of Flapper girl Charlotte Ritter, a young ambitious woman who dreams of becoming a detective in homicide.  The series premiered in 2017 and has since then become one of T.V.’s top crime show in Germany and the U.S. This is hands down one of my top favorite crime shows of all time. It will have you glued to your couch for weeks on end.

MINDHUNTER on Twitter: "You get a lot of free time at Quantico?… "

MindHunter

Mindhunter is an American psychological thriller based on the actual crime book MindHunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, written by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. It’s set in the late 1970’s- the early 1980s during the beginning of new criminal psychological profiling. The term serial killer coined after a new type of murderers such as Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Son of Sam, and BTK started emerging. The team is headed by FBI veteran Bill Tench, an experienced agent with the bureau. Alongside him is a young, Sherlock Holmes agent, Holden Ford who solves cases using new methods outside the law. This is truly one of the best shows that I have seen so far that gives us an in-depth view of the FBI agents and the serial killers they had to confront. It will make you want to leave the lights on while watching the show.

Anna Friel, Marcella (ITV, EH)

Marcella

Marcella is a British crime drama centered on Marcella Backland, a former detective in London who returns from retirement. On her first case,  she has to solve the murder by a serial killer who has resurfaced after 11 years. Marcella Backland has to deal with her work’s new reality and tries to keep her personal life together. She also has to manage the blackouts that start interfering with her case and lead her to become a suspect. Check out this one of a kind mystery/crime thriller that shows us the perspective of a woman dealing with a mental disorder that affects the people around her.

Deadwind season 2 review – another strong outing for this underrated Nordic noir

Dead Wind

Deadwind is a Finnish Nordic Noir series that premiered in August 2018 on Netflix. It follows the main protagonist Sofia Karppi, a detective recently widowed with two children. After her hiatus as a detective with the Finnish police in Helsinki, she goes back to work on her first case. Working alongside her is rookie detective Sakari Nurmi, recently transferred from the financial unit to Homicide. In this crime series, no case is the same. The pace gradually picks up and becomes a cat and mouse game between the detectives and the killers. After its first season premiere, the show was quickly picked for its second season, which is now available on Netflix.

A still from ‘The Valhalla Murders’

The Valhalla Murders

The Valhalla Murders is an Icelandic crime series centered on missing children who turned up dead during their stay at a boys boarding house.
Leading the investigation of the case is veteran detective Kata. Kata soon realizes that the case runs deeper as two victims are murdered in the same way. Having a serial killer on the loose is Iceland is not fun to have. Along with her is a new investigator, Arnar, brought in from abroad to help her. I recommend watching one of the top five mystery/crime tv show on Netflix.
