Early Sunday morning, August 30th, California Highway Patrol (CHP) were called to investigate a Dodge Durango that had veered off the road and smashed into a utility pole near Lakeshore Boulevard in unincorporated north Lakeport. According to Police Chief Brad Rasmussen, the crash involved Wynona Starr Anderson, 29, and her 29-year-old boyfriend, Yancy McCloud Jr.
McCloud was found unresponsive in the passenger’s seat and, despite life-saving efforts, was transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital. McCloud was pronounced dead upon arrival. Following further investigation, Rasmussen said that McCloud’s injuries were not consistent with a vehicle crash. Instead, investigators believe that McCloud was dead prior to the wreck.
Shortly after their arrival on the scene, CHP arrested Anderson for an unrelated misdemeanor arrest warrant, driving without a license, being under the influence of controlled substances, and driving under the influence. Anderson was booked for arrest around 2 a.m. on Sunday. By 2 p.m. the same day, Lakeport Police officers arrested Anderson for murder.
Rasmussen stated that, “based on the facts and circumstances known to us,” including the discovery that the couple had engaged in an altercation prior to the crash taking place, “officers believed that McCloud was the victim of homicide committed by Anderson.” It is presumed that McCloud died of injuries inflicted during the fight, but police are still awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause and manner of McCloud’s death. Anderson currently remains in custody and her bail is set for $1 million.
