It’s every maker’s dream to turn their passion into their full time job, and murderino maker Sara of Sincerely, Sara did just that. A lover of true crime and digital design, she creates t-shirts for every mood, whether it’s declaring your love of murder documentaries or looking for custom shirts for an event. We spoke with Sara about her inspiration to start her business and her true crime origin!
What inspired you to start your craft business?
Hi-diddly-ho there fellow murderinos. I’m Sara- t shirt connoisseur, wife, dog mom, aspiring beach bum, murderino. I am the maker of your new favorite shirt. My business started as a digital design business, but I soon realized that I could be putting my designs on t-shirts and selling them myself, so that is just what I did. From what started out as a part time side gig in my sunroom has grown to a full time job in an upgraded home studio. Every single shirt is cut, heat pressed and packaged with love by me. No third party print shops here!
What got you interested in true crime? Was there a murder in your hometown? A story that has always haunted you?
I grew up watching scary movies and true crime with my mom. I always loved Unsolved Mysteries and stuff like that. In middle school I read my first book on Jeffrey Dahmer and I have been hooked on true crime and obsessed with serial killers ever since. When I was a freshman in college and BTK was caught, I remember being so eager that a serial killer I had learned about only shortly before was actually being caught in real time. It pretty much solidified my lifelong obsession.
What’s a murder, disappearance, or crime story that keeps you up at night?
Like everyone else I think it would be interesting to finally find out what happened to JonBenet Ramsey.
What true crime podcasts are you listening to right now? If podcasts aren’t your thing, we would also love to hear about a spooky book you’re reading or your favorite murder-related tv show!
I listen to My Favorite Murder every week but I am more of a YouTube kind of gal. So I just type in true crime into YT and let it play through whatever it gives me. If I had to choose a show though, It would be Forensic Files all the way. Who can go wrong with that classic?
